Mulled Bloom Wine

We have already discussed that we just don’t drink enough mulled wine around these parts. We are going to change that… starting right now!

Here is another yummy recipe. For this one we use our bloom wine with wild Maine blueberries. If you are feeling sassy, follow the optional directions to add some flame (with a purpose) to your drinks when you serve them. We used sugar cubes and Three of Strong Spirit’s Parchando, 5 year aged rum.

You will need:

1 cup fresh orange juice

1 cup water

1/2 cup sugar

2 cinnamon sticks

2 whole star anise pods

1 bay leaf

2 oranges

whole cloves

1 lemon

1 bottle bloom

sugar cubes (optional)

Three of Strong - Parchando, 5 year (optional)

Instructions:

Combine orange juice, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf, and star anise pods in a pot over medium-high heat. Bring to slight boil and then reduce to low heat.

Halve and juice the two oranges into simmering liquid. Stud the squeezed orange peels with cloves (we do at least 12 on each half) and add to pot. Halve and juice the lemon. Add to pot. Add bottle of bloom and let the liquid warm up again.

Ladle into glass mugs.

Optional step: Add sugar cube to spoon and soak in tbsp of rum. Carefully light the rum on fire and stir caramelized spoonful into drink.
