Mulled White Wine Recipe

We don’t drink enough mulled wine. Across the pond in Europe, happy individuals sip on mulled wine and shop winter markets through the fall and the holidays. Doesn’t that sound nice? Why don’t we do that?!

It isn’t hard to make. It is perfect for an intimate group, for sitting around a fire, and to toss in thermoses for another adventure. It is also delicious!

People may be more familiar with mulled wines with red wine. We are here to introduce you a yummy mulled wine made with white wine. We use meadow, our wine that is back-sweetened with Maine wildflower honey. You could also use an oaky, buttery chardonnay. Just stay away from really acidic wines. Acidity gets overwhelming when heat is introduced.

You will need:

1 orange

whole cloves

3 whole star anise pods

1 piece (1 inch) peeled fresh ginger, sliced

1 cup water

1/4 cup sugar

1 bottle meadow rhubarb wine (or oaked chardonnay)

Instructions:

Using vegetable peeler, peel orange into strips, and remove any white part. Push 5-6 cloves into each peel. Add clove-studded orange peel, the star anise, ginger, water, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stir to dissolve sugar, and cook for 10 minutes.

Remove from heat, add wine.

Let stand for 20 minutes to mull.
