Cash is Queen

I heard about the coolest program over at Back Cove Books. Lucky me, I had the pleasure of working with Becca in the past and reached out immediately for all the details. I told her I wanted to start doing this in the tasting room too. So as of the 2026 season, I am joining Back Cove Books in declaring that Cash is Queen.

Every time a credit card is tapped in our tasting room, an average of 2.6% of that sale leaves our community and goes straight to a processing company. In the world of boutique, small-batch local winemaking, those tiny percentages matter. Every bottle of ours represents hours of processing local rhubarb, hand-pressing, bottling, and labeling. We pride ourselves on paying our production and tasting room staff a living wage, hosting community events with no room fees, and sourcing as locally as possible. Keeping that 2.6% right here helps us keep doing exactly that.

Going forward, we will be tracking our cash transactions. Every quarter, we will calculate that 2.6% processing fee we saved on cash sales and pass it directly along to our staff as a quarterly bonus. When you choose to pay with cash at the tasting room, you are quite literally taking money away from massive credit card corporations and putting it straight into the pockets of the community ladies who pour your glasses and press, bottle, and label your favorite rhubarb wines.

We will never shame you for using a card or paying with your phone. We get it. But if you happen to have cash on hand, or feel like sneaking a quick trip to the ATM before heading our way, know that it puts a little more money back into our actual community and community members.

Thank you,

Amanda
