Sipping More Sustainably
We’ve always believed that something can be both beautiful and sustainable. Our story started with a bold bet on rhubarb — taking a humble, locally grown ingredient and crafting it into a sophisticated wine. But it doesn’t stop there. We’re committed to making thoughtful choices every day and working with our community to do what’s good for the planet, one small action at a time.
From Field to Fermentation — and Back Again
As you know, all of our wines start with locally grown rhubarb, sourced from farms right here in Maine. Supporting nearby growers not only keeps our ingredients fresh and rooted in place, it also reduces transportation emissions and helps sustain the small farms that make Maine so special.
After we press the rhubarb for fermentation, the leftover pulp still has plenty of life left in it. Instead of tossing it, we pack it into big green totes and send it to our friends at Garbage to Garden. They transform our rhubarb remnants — along with food scraps from homes and restaurants across Maine — into rich compost that nourishes local soil. It’s our own little full-circle moment of giving back to the earth that feeds us.
Bottles, Cans, and the CLYNK Cycle
We recycle all of our bottles and cans through CLYNK, one of Maine’s own bottle redemption programs. Along the way, we’ve supported local groups we care about — from youth baseball teams to animal shelters — by using their CLYNK bags. It’s a small loop of sustainability that keeps materials out of the landfill and gives back to the community that supports us.
Giving Our Bottles a Second Life
Our marketing intern this summer brought fresh ideas — and one of our favorites was reusing empty wine bottles as vases. She’d clean them out, add a few blooms, and instantly turn them into something beautiful.
Her idea: grab flowers from one of Portland’s local grocery stores, pick up takeout from a nearby favorite, invite a few friends, and make unique bouquets together. Split up the bulk flowers and reuse your bottles — it’s simple, sustainable, and creative fun.
Conscious Choices for the Next Generation of Wine Lovers
Younger wine drinkers are asking more questions about what’s in their glass — where ingredients come from, how wine is made, and how producers care for the land. We love that curiosity. By crafting wines from Maine-grown rhubarb, supporting local farmers, and keeping sustainability at the heart of what we do, we’re proud to offer a transparent, authentic choice for those who care about both flavor and footprint.
Sustainability isn’t about being perfect — it’s about intention. Whether it’s composting rhubarb, recycling bottles, or finding creative ways to reuse what we already have, we’re proud to be part of a community that values small actions with big heart.
