Let's Celebrate Maine Summer with fête

fête rhubarb wine in Casco Bay

fête is an elaborate festival, party, or celebration and nothing should be celebrated more than summer in Maine... it is only here for so long!

We are excited about our 2020 fête release! This light, dry, and refreshing wine has killer acidity, beautiful fruit, and a touch of balanced sweetness. We also bet it will make you and your wine loving friends pause and say ‘this is really made from JUST rhubarb?!?’

Here is how you can get your hand on it this beautiful weekend:

Why this rhubarb wine is so special

This fête release is special to us. We are so proud of this wine. This wine was made for the first time last year for Erica Archer of Wine Wise Events and Portland Wine week. The wildly successful Portland Wine week brought wine makers, experts, and trendsetters from all over the country to our little Forest City.

Erica asked if we could make her a wine to feature at Portland Wine Week and to pour at her Women and Wine event at the Falmouth Country Club. We may be the only winery that is making wine IN Portland (excluding mead.. if you want to bring that up) so why not have a Portland made wine, showcased at Portland Wine Week!

I don’t know if you have ever made a wine for a true oenophile with high levels of certification in her field. Someone who has been awarded the Wine Spirit and Education Trust Level Three Advanced Certification in Wines and Spirits (with merit), became a Sommelier in the American Court of Master Sommeliers, and received her Certified Wine Professional award from the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California (accolades taken from her website)… but we hadn’t.

I don’t know if you have ever made a wine from a weed that was going to poured at an event alongside the most award winning winemaker in the United States and who has been named Winemaker of the Year numerous times, other decorated and talented winemakers, regional sommeliers, and wine writes… but we hadn’t.

It was intimidating.

We wanted a wine that would make everyone have to pause and say ‘THIS is really made from JUST rhubarb?!’. And… we are very pleased with the result.

We made a wonderful wine for Erica and Portland Wine Week and sold out before summer was even close to over.

We were excited to make this wine again for Portland Wine Week. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, Portland Wine Week has been cancelled and it breaks our heart. We will miss the events, the networking, and the joy of a small city coming together around wine.

We did still want to release this wine. We DO still have things to celebrate! Maine’s summers are far too short, this year is very difficult, and we deserve to raise a glass to our beautiful city and state.

The label was designed by our talented friend, Josh Fisher, who has done all of our labels since day one. The boat on the label is The Frances. This beautiful schooner typically can be seen at the Maine State Pier and in Casco Bay. It is a female captained, owned AND made vessel. It is also the boat Wine Wise had their popular wine sails on for years. We took the liberty to make one small improvement to Captain Meghan’s boat and gave The Frances some rhubarb sails.

We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we do and you take it somewhere and share it with people who are special to you. Let’s celebrate even the smallest things. We all need that right now.
